My Niagara Falls view
proved to me that
some have false views
of reality,
or maybe the problem
is just me?
Do I take Life
too seriously?

I went to Niagara to see the Falls
and was not disappointed
by Nature’s show.
But Clifton Hill above the Falls
was a joke,
a carnival atmosphere
fabricated by humans
who didn’t find nature’s majesty
enough to embrace.
Casinos.
Games.
Freak shows.
Cheap tourist trinkets
for sale everywhere.

Niagara is stupendous,
a natural work of art
that roars and rushes
with power beyond belief.
I stayed away from
the cheap trickster shows.

And the day after I left Niagara Falls
someone very depressed about Life
went over the edge,
and miraculously lived.
And now he has
a new lease on life.
The Falls fall brought him back
to a new reality.
I wonder what would have happened
if he had visited the Clifton Hill
game area before jumping?
The false view of it was nearly enough
to make me want to jump.

Oh Kacy I can relate to this one!
Isn't Clifton Hill something else?!!!
Egads!!  A tourist mecca...incredible.
Also incredible that man lived after going over without even a barrel!
Loved this write!

I do know what you mean!

I was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario and as a teenager I worked summer jobs on Clifton Hill---Tussaud's Wax Museum as a tour guide, Seagram's Tower (as an elevator operator) which has changed names several times since (I think it is currently called the Minolta Tower).

The contrast between the carnie atmosphere and the splendour of Nature's beauty, is quite jarring to the soul!

I really identified with this write.

Agreed Kacy, Niagra is so beautiful it doesn't need anything to add to it...
Well done.

Saw the falls as a kid.  One of thos experiences that makes you feel so insignificant, but in a good way.  That makes no sense, does it?  Oh well, I imagine you're used to that from me...   Glad you're back Kacy!

Nancy, glad I'm not the only one who was put-off by that display

Linda, WOW, born there! lucky you to have been able to see that wonder regularly

Donna, it's a useless shame to try and upstage MOM

Dixie, it's a natural WOW sight

Duncan, LOL, me too, glad to be back but sad to have had such a short stay at the Falls. and yes, it makes perfect sense to me. Should I worry? LOL

haven't been there but read an article in
Invention & Technology a while back about Niagra Falls, it's making into the basic tourist trap it is.  The article looked at Niagra from way back when it first started to be developed and ever since then from what I gathered...nothing has changed...maybe a few names, developments, etc., but your view pretty well fits that of the last century or so....to a larger or lesser extent...

pack the bags and go see it 3D

its worth the trip, especially if you avoid the T traps and take in the majesty it offers you for free

OMG, Sue, I wish I had known you were that close, it would have been wonderful to meet you in 3D! I hope to revisit the Falls next spring or summer. Maybe then?
The nighttime lighting of the Falls is beautiful, and the rainbows created by the lights hitting the mist is a visual rush.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Kacy, this is very touching, sweet friend, Clifton Hill would be just fine as long as it wasn't disrupting the panormaic natural view of Niagara, as there is a place for vaudevilles where nature no longer is! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kacy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Noah, have you been there?
Clifton Hill belongs out in the middle of some struggling mid-west ghost town that needs the likes of a vaudeville T trap to bring in cash. The juxtaposition of such abominations alongside natural wonders-of-the-world as Niagara infuriates my artistic sensibilities.

Thanks for reading, m'friend.

I thought that I might be the only one that is irritated by this sort of thing, I see that I am not.
Building a place like this next to a natural wonder is blasphemy, as is (in my opinion) The faces of the presidents who scar the peaks in the sacred black hills....
Well done, Midnightsun......ice/ford

How very cool you got to go Kacy-girl...I have always wanted to see them...the sheer power alone would be breathtaking...then add the beauty...

as for the tourist traps...I feel the same way about all the hotels on MY beaches

post some pics of your trip!!

JM, LOL, YOUR beaches? but I agree 100%
maybe we should build underground, like moles? as long as we stay away from the cool natural limestone caves of course.

Thanks to each of you for your replies!
