Wanted – 1960 something and beyond There were divisional lifetimes in what I knew, wished, and, not to mention, wanted when, in growing up there was a glamour, elegance and beauty mixed with changing times hear the sounds of let it loose and let go, trying, keeping, still, a grace, divided then I, a youngish person, at odds, youth in want of elegance, and equality, glamour, and freedoms, having lost sense of who one might (Should? Could?) be. I watched Audrey, and Katherine, Twiggy and Gloria, Grace, and all three Jacquelines, [don’t you know my mother, Jackie…] and lines lines drawn in a there and then to encompass a future here, and now, always holding out a line to tomorrow, a line none will know until they step into it. All based in colors phased, lost thoughts in haze defining moments confining content. {oh, read it both ways} This whole poem started as a highlight to colors, the peaches and soft blues I cannot wear, to acknowledge the beige of soul and - breakthrough - the green of growth and black of memory although I did not talk of them, and You, did not see them, but everything emptying into more now a color of feelings. What is it (after all) to feel ~ unique? To know a moment? Sometimes, [insert our mutual Bond’s smile here. Then, raise an eyebrow] a moment is when you are the desire in any one man’s eye. Color me pale. [This message has been edited by Sunshine (10-21-2003 10:09 PM).] |

I have to admit, I did sneak a peek at this poem when I had a moment at work today. I can't respond there. I couldn't wait to get home from work for another read. I do understand this, Karilea. And although I am very fond of this period of time...because of all of the change...I do understand the want of Camelot and white gloves and pill box hats and elegance and eloquence. Today, (and we will never know) do you think you would be who you are, had the revolution not happened....free to explore your world through words. I don't know? Had JFK survived, I believe our world would be much different...can I prove this? NO! So, m'dear...there is always a trade off...elegance for freedom. There is always a trade off. I hope this makes sense...not feeling myself today. The poem, my friend, is superb. I love it and am keeping it! Patricia |
