In July of this past summer, apparently my 5 year old daughter had impressed me no end. While cleaning out my \documents folder, I found this little ode. I think I wrote it to remind me of the days, when I'm old and my sweetie is "big", and I have other considerations to make. big sister there is no goodnight without her reassuring embrace and a wipe-away kiss there is no morning or new day without her life-affirming hugs and her sweet "good morning" she is a hero finding herself big without the bigness confused and proud, strong and shy she is a big sister she looses her prize toys gladly -- and teaches him songs she pours his milk spilling a little, wiping it up, -- I smile from my perch -- she tends to his safety away from home ans assures his compliance to the rules she warns him of the bad-bugs and the gross foods and the yummy ones, too she hugs his boo-boo's into submission and dances with him for the joy... spinning away the dullness or rainy days. she lets him know "Daddy's busy" and waits with him, until she interrupts with her 5-year-old diplomacy reminding Daddy of what's really important. machiner the hero's lucky Dad 7/23/03 11:30 am EST |
