She rarely intrudes upon my darkness, an infrequent miasma of unwholesome energy permeating the dankest confines of my incorporate world. On the chance occasion that my subconscious is breached by the stark revulsion that now accompanies even the sweetest memory, it is barely within my ability to gasp for air, hold my feet, and take the next step, hoping only to push the next occasion farther and farther down the road to forgotten. The sweetgrass still emanates its perfumed serenity, the new moon has yet to show his face, and I have yet to notice. You can't wake a person who is pretending to be asleep. -- Navajo Proverb |
