Martie's World (oh yeah, it's your birthday)

You’ll find her puttering in the garden,
or watching a sunset over the hills,
pruning roses for her table,
or calling to the whippoorwill.

I’ve always thought it would be great
to meet her for a latte or two,
in some crowded local coffee joint
where poets can recite a line or two.

We’d rejoice in the state we share,
the hills, seas and deserts here,
with its beauty beyond compare,
and secrets only residents share.

A toast to you, then, dear Martie,
for your view of the world surprised,
softly wrapped in a flower’s petals
all seen with roseate eyes.
