(leaving in the morning for my 40th high school class reunion in St. louis, hence the repost. Hopefully it won't come true! See y'all in a few days!)
.
.
.
A very strange experience occurred last week to me...
Re-union of my high school class of 1963.
It was so long since I'd been back I wasn't sure I'd know
A single, solitary face but I just had to go.

Nostalgic waves of reminisces flooded through my brain
Recalling all those care-free days of school and raising cane
In days still free of obligations, marriages and strife
Where only sports and pretty smiles composed a happy life.

So I went back to my old school and entered through the door
Excited to meet all the school chums I had known before.
I looked around the room, anticipation on my face
But didn't recognize one single person in the place!

There were so many bald heads there - so many horn-rimmed glasses,
So many dumpy matrons that had grown from comely lasses.
I tried so to relate to them but it was very hard.
I felt that I had walked into a geriatric ward!!

Those high school jocks that dunked the ball or scored touchdowns with ease
Now walked around with bellies that went half-way to their knees!
Those pretty faces I had kissed and loved so long ago
Now left me shaking with relief that they had told me no!

They spoke of operations and the troubles they'd been through
And vitamins and IRA's and "I've got more than you!"
Men tried to hold their stomachs in with belts that had no slack
And tried to dance the Twist in ways to not throw out their back.

Well, I got through it - don't know how - the name tags helped a lot.
They asked me if I'd come again in five years...I think not.
It was a good experience but, if the truth be told,
I've no desire to be with them - those guys are WAY TOO OLD!!!

ROFL...'Deer?...have I told you, lately, how
adorable you are?  Well, you are!

Have a wonderful time, my friend...and then hurry back.

love of power the world will know peace.

Ah yes, as my 30th approaches, I look forward to seeing everyone again, because it seems to me that everyone else got old except for myself!  Cute read.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Balladeer, we all wish you the best time in St. Louis this weekend, sweet friend, I still wonder what reunions will be like in the future, it must feel so very strange but there are so many stories to hear and it all must be worthwhile! (smiles) Have a good time, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Balladeer, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

We do all change over the years that is for sure. But you have to look at the bright side of aging. As we all grow older we become priceless and as you know we are one of a kind. We are now considered antiques and you know how much value people put on antiques.
"clapping"
Have a safe trip so we may read more of your delightful poetry.

LOL ... well you got me smiling all the way through this. Only you, only you!

I fully expect to hear the "real" story when you return Michael, written of course with as much chuckles and humour as you do so wonderfully.  This was great, sweet poet ... just great!

Have fun!!!

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Well, that guffaw laughing session should tie me over for a week or two! LOL

I do so know what you mean! I believe these class reunions should be called, "The Revenge of the Nerds"--for they are the ones that seemed to have blossomed and grown, while the jocks have often gone to seed! LOL

Have a great time--and hurry back! I'm sure there will be more grist for your poetic mill and I'll be looking out for another haha poem!

Thanks for the good laugh.  The only problem is that all that you wrote about is true.  I went to my 45th last June and I was so nervous and jittery until I saw everyone else and it made me feel good that I was still able to dance and some could not.  Hope you had a great time.

I want a reunion toooooo, in Florida, but I don't want to wait another 40 years, hell I'll be about a 100 years old by then, LOL

Enjoy yourself sweet Deer, I bet they all do remember you

Hugs, Titia

They took a class picture, a curious mixture,
Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties,
Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini,
But they couldn't believe Balladeer's thighs!
