The Solution

She answers
give it up to the Lord -
her nice house,
good husband and respectful kids
as testimony,

jabs a finger into my sternum,
frees flaws there.
They bob about, fuzzily exposed.

She checks off my sins
in little air boxes -
my child rearing ideology,
the neglect of matrimonial sanctuary,
and a tendency to mark conversation
with guilty half-serious quips.

You don’t know what you want.

Today, she dragged me to church.
The sermon topic was the definition
of love. I stabbed nails into my palms
to keep from crying. I don’t know why.

I came home with a free bible, though.

They who attempt to impose their own personal standards of living upon others merely strive to validate their own choices.

We must all forge our own paths, don'tcha think?

Well written, of course, m'friend...

My house was always to fragile to throw stones at others... well meaning or not, that one cast to chase away the barking dog or the rabid skunk, just too often ends up breaking something ..

Thank you, Crystal.

Yes, Nan, so true. I dread visiting the lady, but her son and my son have been best friends since Kindergarden. We live a couple of hours away from each other, so when we get the boys together for a visit, we have to see one another. I'm trying to learn to get along with her and to fight the urge to ask her how she reconciles her judgemental nature with Christianity.

Thank you, sweet Sey!

You do have a way of putting things that makes me smile, Ron. Thank you.

Corinne
