I live within myself

In your touch and in your face
In your smile; that warming trace.

The way you say how much you care.
Makes me want to lay feelings bare.

I don’t get nervous; I don’t falter
Your eyes I trust; Feelings stir

And in those orbs of tender kind
Are reflections of a similar mind.

That dances with my own at times.
And embraces with music chimes.

Yet every day you pull away,
I begin to question my own stay.

And wonder if these feelings muted
Are casualties of time undisputed.

When we should have spoken from our heart
To makes promises of a future start.

When we let others speak our mind
Losing track of precious time.

If only love could keep the pace
That settles on the hidden face

that needs more days to show true self
but love never lingers on the shelf.

It surprises you and traps you quick
If you want to keep it; make it stick

You have to grab it quickly and tight
And hold with both hands and all your might.

Because just as quickly as it came
It leaves you wilted from its pain.

Love is the same when it arrives
Depends on you if it survives.

I’ve never wanted love to stay
Was always happy it went away.

Never ready to keep that call.
I hadn’t been prepared at all.

But, now as you pull away.
I’m pleading love not to stray.

I know I was slow taking hold.
I know I have yet to be bold.

But as this feeling seeps through the cracks
And my fingers cramp from strength I lack.

I’m holding on the best I can.
I don’t want to lose a friend.

And even more so as I fight
I welcome love to stay tonight.

Because finally I’m in that place.
With the one who loves my hidden face.

Aw...if only love could be made to stay, but it can be entreated, and made welcome. Usually that is all that is necessary to get it to stay all on its own. Love has to be given and taken or it "pulls away" believing it is unwanted. I loved this Endlessecho, a very heart touching piece. Nicely done.

Oh thank you!  This is a very raw poem (personal feelings that are still very strong right now), so I was nervous to put it up.  I also am very new at writing "love" and rhyming poetry.  I never used to!  So, I'm so glad you all appreciated it.
