River’s Ending

Inches to the sea
and a mile inland,
yet the river knows,
feels its own ending.

Already pregnant
with the furtive brine
that waits for it there,
still it hesitates.

Did the low, flat surge
of tide and wind wave
bring salt, or was it
the river’s own tears?

Good and pensive,
(musingly, or dreamingly thoughtful)

Nice write, Ratleader~

I have lived where the river meets the sea, and I am still in awe of the exchange.  You've expressed it so well.  ~K~

Ed

Perhaps it is not an end at all, but a new beginning.  You are such a thoughtfilled man...it shows in your poetry.

someone wrote in a book to me, what we think will happen, and it's so very true...believe my dear friend....that there is nothing in this world that we cannot do, if we put our heart and soul to the sail....

thank you for an awesome write, and your allowing heart....

Ed...This reminds me of the mighty Mississippi. Thats exactly what happens during the Summer, the salt water from the Gulf of mexico creeps up into the river.
I lived next to the Mississippi all my life.
Enjoyed the poem...Paul
