Between the Lines

Pressed for time, my fingers ply their touch,
forehead pain, that from squinting,
and thoughts of tomorrow and tomorrow
and tomorrow...

My eyes wanting to see more, force more,
awaken the happiness in everything.

Such waste, these fearful thoughts
stamped there, tattooed in black
snaking their way into permanency.

I could drown myself in soft thoughts of denial,
bubbles scented in vanilla
with only the barest of the bare rising above...
letting the steam lift me to a higher place.

I have been stripped of my confidence,
more than once, my skin chilled from the defrocking.
My outside so frayed...that the edges fold in
holding what little pride I have left.

A taste of warmth, seeping in, drifting me
to places I have never been,
bathing now in fantasy, laced taut
in the hidden, tomorrow's paradise, if only.

I sometimes wonder who I am,
what lies beneath this facade,
when will the pure show its face
and the world acknowledge such existence.

The storm brews, the strikes closer,
the pounding louder, transporting me
back to reality as I step out,
pass the mirrored view,
press my fingers to the pain
and surrender to another day.

"Love is not blind - It sees more and not less, but because it sees more, it is willing to see less."
(Will Moss)

I've been there too Maureen. Acknowledge your own existence first. Embrace her...and your eyes will be opened to just how many of us care deeply about you. Great write. hugs to you, Chris

The imagery kept me wanting to read. This was well written and most enjoyable to digest.

I hope time eases the pain I feel in your words, my friend.
