Behind Closed Doors

The blue shadows of hidden tears,
flowing down to rivers of pain,
concealed and buried behind closed doors.
No one knows of her sadness,
her pain,
her empty loneliness.
She pulls the curtains to hide her sorrow
and
crushes undeniable anger of heated words not said.
Brought up in a generation of
silence and unwilling submission.
Always told to hold her silence in darkness,
do not raise your voice in anger,
do not bring frustration and angry words into the light of day.
People saying they are a friend-
Their honeyed words flowing over sugared lips
falling on ears that no longer believe.
Then as they disappear into the fabric of their lives.
They forget this quiet person as they travel down life's highway.
Only remembering when sadness claims their heart
that she was once called a friend.
In life when she needs help-
The only thing she hears is
the resounding roar of the
slamming door
and
the deafening answer of no.
One day the anger will bubble to the surface
and spew like hot molten lava.
People will stand and stare
and wonder what is wrong with her.
Why is she so angry?
As they turn and walk away.
Not hearing her weeping cry,
not seeing her lonely
emptiness.
Not seeing what she hides,
Behind Closed Doors.

Bonnie, this one rings bells. Full of energy...a well described emotional overload just waiting to burst through the first open door.
Well done, friend.

Bonnie j - how well you know of this. They never will get the question, or the answer in a million years, even if one explains it to them...

Wow, This is such an intense poem and so full of truth for many people in the world. It's really sad to think how many friends never try and open every door. Great poem, thanks for sharing it here with us.

Sometimes we have to follow a stronger voice, even if it's silent.

We each may have a door that we think exists as a barrier, but it exists only in one plane.
I have a door too, and a heavy one at that.
Thanks for sharing this.
