Moved from a shack to a barn

It is said
That when you reach the age of one
Your memory can be described
As "One Whole"

And when you are nine
The sum of your memory
Is "One over Nine"
One ninth

If true...

It explains why
At the age I find myself now
I recall so little
Of what once seemed so important

But, leads me to wonder
What evil device is at work
That keeps fresh
These images that haunt

A haunting write! There is within us a defense strategy activated when we are haunted too much by certain memories ... but it does not work if we do not collaborate I think .... we should learn to let go and release. The once important things are not linked to problems probably ... that's why they slumber .... just my thoughts.
Love, Margherita

It's not that we forget more, Ed.

We simply have more files to rifle through first.

(But there is many a night, I am grateful I hit the "delete" button, too.)

y'made the witch smile, yeti.

Ever heard of a calculator, quit using your head, as one's heart will always get in the way of that equation. Very creative way of showing the pain of our memory.

Wranx- You always seem to find a way to make the reader ponder your thoughts, and their own, almost every time you write...

"It explains why
At the age I find myself now
I recall so little
Of what once seemed so important"

Having just this past week agonized another marking of the years, I found myself discovering this same exact principal.. yet not with half the eloquence...
Another masterpiece.

We are all equal but we’re individually different
and able to reach the impossible if we try.

Is fear, then, the 10th power?  Interesting poem, even more interesting as you reach an age that is still beyond you, and you will begin to regain those good memories that you only think you've forgotten, and the haunting ones will start to fade.  Of course, sometimes you won't remember what you did 10 minutes ago...

I see it happen every day.  I can't say I understand the whole of it, especially as I am not strong in the advanced math [myth?] of life, but it does happen.

I had been wondering where you were.  I'm glad to see you landed where I could enjoy your poetry...

Clever  write!

--Hey, Dear Ed, I've got an idea! Why don't you rip the horns off that "evil device" and stick a halo in their place! Then you'll have only happy memories!--Trust me!

Ed, I think that "evil device" is called "experience"...  Loved the ponder and observation.

i had to reply even though i do not know how to articulate my feeling.

i only know that i strongly feel that this, however well written, is somehow incomplete, wrong, or both.

maybe next year, eh.

Sorry I missed this, Ed...but glad I dug it up tonight.

Clever, thought provoking, and left me with a smile.

Fractional memories are the end result of too many 'fractured' experiences that were input into your brain at times when your heart was either unable to calculate the impact or accept the full 'value' of the experience.
I have some fractions/fragments in my memory banks that I would like to assign a zero value.
Interesting brainwave bender, Ed.

(I know what I mean anyway. )

Ed...It takes time to form an understanding of some events in life....and the older we get, the more experience we have with which to understand.  I never was very good at math.  Enjoyed the thought in this poem though!
