I walk slowly through the door
And brush the cobwebs away
Your shed was once your refuge
A place you came to every day

The smell of cedar oil
And wood carved long ago
Your place of quiet contentment
Where your skills were put on show

I once watched you as you worked
Your hands were cracked and dry
Fond memories I now relive
As a tear escapes my eye

I inhale familiar scents
As I stand amongst my thoughts
You were a gentle man of peace
So many lessons you once taught

As I walk towards the door
I stop and reminisce
You remain inside my memory
But your presence I still miss

* * *

"We sat together for what
seemed like hours,
without saying a single word.
Our hearts were so finely tuned
to one another that we felt
no need to speak."

I am in motion
I am blue
Love is an ocean
I'm anchored in you

Hi Sue, This was an amazing bit of writing and I felt transported to the shed with you and your Dad. Great use of words to form a picture in my mind.

I owe you an email and I'll write at the beginning of the week. Thanks for the cute ecard and your thoughtful note.

All is well, huggles, Marti

Sue:  This is so moving!  It's always hard to go back to where your father has worked. My father was a carpenter and I remember going into his shop awhile after he was gone and it felt like he was there! Bittersweet experience.

Dear Sue, thanks for letting me share your memory and walk down the path with you, without them where would we be? Glad the flow is back and your pen again is full of ink. Take care my friend, much enjoyed.

Sincerely
Rick

You know how much I love this gentle recall. We were truly blessed by our dads. Don't ever stop writing dear lady!

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
