Listening to every heart

They say that it is going to storm
that we should watch the weather
but never was the thunder born
like the love that left me, ever
they say that it is going to howl
but it won’t match the ravage in my heart
they say its going to rain and pour
but not like this tornado that has torn us far apart

What was left within me,
and what is left behind
a worn and careless mess
is all that’s left this time

They say there is a tempest blowing
my heart sure knows it to be true
you can hear it in the old cock’s crowing
as the skies get dark and lose the blue
and that tornado, well it snuck in tight
sucked me up and drew in the light
ravaged and savaged and threw me around
and then it as suddenly let me down

What was left within me
and what is left behind
a worn and careless mess
is all that’s left this time

Now I keep a careful eye on those stormy days
never will I again let it have its way
for I will draw behind me that creaky cellar door
and await the ceasing of its terrible vast roar
they say that it is going to storm
that we should watch the weather
but never was the thunder born
like the love that left me, ever

What was left within me
and what is left behind
a worn and careless mess
is all that’s left this time

I can't tell you how much I've missed reading this kind of poetry from you Kari.  Glad I stopped in today.

Indeed, K, I am shutting that cellar door tight.  I have felt the rath of that tornado.  Don't care for the experience.

I love the whole poem, but these lines are especially powerful.
No tornado can switch off all the light that remains in you ....

Karilea, those storms are really hard to get over sometimes, aren't they? They make us want to stay where we feel secure.....

Very good poem, Lady

"they say its going to rain and pour
but not like this tornado that has torn us far apart"

A perfect metaphor.

I love storms.  I have been known to stand out on a jetty in the ocean and play harmonica to a hurricane. Looking back on my life, it may be that I also am drawn to stormy relationships.

this entire poem was a marvelous read...simply profession from the first line to the last...and I don't mean to down play the sadness of it...it's just that from the most devestating storms come the finest parts of life....eventually...this was astounding...thank you for writing and sharing.

Karilea...Storms always make me feel alive...but I understand the meaning behind yours and why the need for the celler door.  Beautifully written, dear friend!

You know, I usually love storms, but not this type of storm. I liked the poem though. Even though it's a repost, here's some and a rainbow smile for you!
