Prophecy, Part 3

The old Cornerstone Cafe

Years ago, it inhabited up-and-
running, slickly coming,
wise words of cunning
writers, now, a bit more still
of chatter,

his hideaway of brick
and tables, cappuccino or wine,

remained his escape
from himself, certainly from
all the ancient lives he'd lived

to pen, in tantalizing, mesmerizing,
fantasizing legend, poetic reminders
of who he wasn't.

Tell-tale character crinkles lineated
his true story clearly, more
vividly than any of his napkin scribbles,

and were he that twenty two year old again,
he would have pulled a Marlboro
to his lips,

while dotting i's and linking curves
to ohs
through his typical vehicle of compose.

How many wasted napkins bore her name?

Sweltering in early summer's solstice
twilight, now he finds only

missing thoughts
stray words
mislaid pieces

absent of something,
some thing
uncommon,
foreign
to his frame of reference.

Vulnerable, futile attempts
dismally failed to produce
salvageable
storylines

          While bittersweet coffee only
          stirred her memory

He mentally excused his word block
with a habitual diversion
tactic

How many wasted thoughts bore her scent?

innocently, half-heartedly
flirting with seasoned
hash slingers was this older man's attempt
to tease and flaunt his wisely
weathered taunting of the
leaner, greener girls.

But this night
even that was
distasteful...
remaining unflavored
by a missing ingredient

the seasoning of his soul.

              Darkened windows evening shadows
even his memories saw hues of a slender redhead
that had once walked toward him.

The scent of cinnamon still
in his core.

He attempts to capture her
fragrance in his napkin net
of phrases

Though her scent remained
illusive, fading quickly in
summer's frothy air.

His pen, almost weightless of ink,

only she holds the fluid from

which to hydrate it again.
His words become lone cripples,
paralyzed by her ghost.

Yet he knows his
majestic auburn moth
flutters delicately
among the most common
of night's lamps.

In the dusky evening glow,

destiny's light

draws her
to his soul.

And...he sits in quiet pose,  a mere nod
waking the tale of his dream as a pen
softly scrawls the once clean cloth...
now smudged by an endless series of mistaken
thoughts and half words...

This is a very spellbinding story...You girls
have no idea how much I am enjoying this...
No idea....

Aha! Imagine my pleasure at seeing Prophecy, Part 3 in the list of titles!--and ladies, did you ever deliver!

Might I suggest you skip writing a Part 4 and just jump into writing a book together! It'll be a bestseller for sure!

Huggums, girlfriends!

Another exceptional chapter in this excellent blending of two poets talents...
the chemistry between you two is wonderful and allowing you to touch places deep to find your inspiration.
This write had many gifts...what I particularly enjoyed what the way you teased and pleased all the senses with your imagery and detail...
I could smell the scents wafting within your words.
Lovely ladies...encore encore

No matter what the differences
No matter what the cost
When words become our weapons ...
All that's beautiful is lost.

Well, I have been completely captivated by this writing. I must say that it is incredible that this is a collaboration, unless the two of you are Siamese twins! This is close to being worthy of "masterpiece" status. I'm reminded of "The Love Song of Alfred J.....".

You really have something special here. Leave it to two midwestern gals to write a down-to-earth piece of such impact. Congrats to you both!

Karilea & Patricia,
Holy cow! These are going into my library right now. How incredible is this write! You two are the BOMB...

You stole my heart and filled it with dreams.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Loved this series you two, there is so much stimuli going on in the room, passing between words, gathering together in your hearts, and a oneness through the baring of your souls.  Absolutely fascinating poetry.

Bravo Ladies~

well done you two!

you not only paint the scenery here, but build the character and something that seems to lie underneath the words to just sort of swirl and tug at the edges of your mind...

I have to say the two of you are some of the best at writing together that I have read....seamless...and a timeless tale..

I enjoyed!

What do you think, Patricia?  Should we let them peek at Part 4?  Yes?  Well, then, let's do it!
