Clustered, like sheep huddled against
the blizzard’s breath, tumbleweeds
fight the barb of wire stretching
endlessly toward a scrub brush horizon
of red dusty hue.

Burma Shave intermingled with Coca Cola
and the miles before the next free wash,
oil and gas..starkly offset by the drying
carcass of a moon’s howl mate....boney
jaws showing the scowl of a ranch hand’s
prize.

The distance painted in light brown and
sparse green, home of the mesmerizing
pump jack, bringing Texas Tea to the
top....26 cents a gallon it was....until
the crunch of 73....when lines were
long and tempers short.

Just over the border....the Okey side...
A jukebox blared some forgotten tune
in a darkened and smoke hazed beer
joint as a fresh rack is broken and the
next long neck joins the growing
pile....  Liquor was legal there..

I was hummin’ "Okie from Muskogee"
or something like that...as road pizzas
caused the swerve and buzzards roost
the scrub oak starving for a rain cloud
on a hot and humid day....What a man
would do for a cold glass of most
anything ‘cept wrung out sweat...

Albuquerque bound cross the black
ribbon....into the night of star studded
skies and oil derrick Christmas trees...
Ten miles to the next town and you
can see the stop light in the middle of
town....far, far away.....as a radio
humms the AM band...Wolf Man
Jack howls the airways....and a star
falls into the western sky...

It is such a shame that you are unable to capture the reader's imagination or hold their interest with your writing!----NOT!  Triple NOT!

Excellente as usual, maestro! You conducted another symphony, masterfully!

(sigh) Oh Barry, this is wonderful, sweet friend, this felt so familiar to me and I really hope those miles remain untouched so one can live this kind of adventure again and again! (big hugggssssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

I have found my sorcerer sailing in this sea of blue,
and now my majestic king, Magnus, that's you.
Need a court jester to dry a tear, I know it must be Balladeer.

I love your stories.  Very nice, Barry.

Burma Shave intermingled with Coca Cola

This complete write is a capture of my own bygone days!
Those Burma Shave signs were the highlight of each travel trip!

LOVED it!
