RiverFest 2003

Summer and Festival come, just in time,
you’ll never know just what you’ll find
at this festival where art is, “Look, See!”
for all to capture in memories…

where fish might seem to swim on land
and Seacreatures float in ponds gone grand,
no, at a festival such as this, with me,
you’ll never know just what you’ll see…

where friends find friends in fried food courts
and food IS fest and where one starts
to store up on energy to last three days
and elephant ears come powdered or glazed…

where turkey legs meet dipping dots
polish sausage comes mild or hot
kettle corn finds smoky almonds
and hickory chips make food fun…

Indian Tacos meet Texas ‘Taters
onion blossoms find great favor
childish painted faces in glee
start dancing to music’s harmony

even clouds seem to just hang by
while the flavored music flies,
Aussies came {the Waifs were here,}
And Gospel Motown filled our ears

Thursday night had a jam-filled session
where young and old showed off their lessons
arts and Crafts filled all eyes’ view
a three day fest held just for you…

Even the fine arts seemed to dance
as oil could capture a stormy romance
between paint and sky and minds gone wild…
Riverfest is for parents or child…

If you ever need a vacation, come and see
At River Festival - come walk with me.

I'll just bet that painting is yours now!

and you sure made this seem like fun!

Sometimes I think New Orleans has too many festivals--it makes them less of an "event", yanno?

You made me wish I was there.

Oh Karilea, this long distance walk with you was wonderful.  Perhaps, the next River Festival we will share together in person. My children would love this, especially the little one.

Thanks for sharing your weekend with us.

Such a lively, funfilled trek
with you as guide! Your words painted
a multitude of pictures and your
pictures filled in between the lines!
I enjoyed this!

Thanks for sharing!
Blessings!

WOW! You just KNOW that I would have to read something with "river" in it. But this, is great (the pics, the write, the festival)

MY river looks just like this, except without all the art, music, fun, people, food, music, fun, people, and art.

Karilea, you know I have been waiting all weekend
to find out how it went this year..and I was not disappointed.
The Riverfest committee should hire you to do their PR work!
This is wonderful! So full of sights and scents.
Our river festivals are just getting underway
and run on and off all summer.
Maybe I can walk with you on one of yours?
Well done!! I thoroughly enjoyed 'being there' with you again this year.

Naw, Serenity...I couldn't afford it!  That painting was a few hundred dollars more than I had in my pocket...and if I could paint, you know I would...but darlin' I can't even write a decent sonnet...heaven only help the paint brushes and canvas!!!

Margherita, I so enjoyed having you by my side!

Patricia, people come from ALL over to enjoy Salina's Smoky Hill River Festival.  My friend from Texas makes her annual trip up just for this very reason!  You ALL are welcome...

JilGirl, thank you for reading!

Scorpio, indeed they do.  We had wonderful weather this year...it was marvelous!

Wranx, I'll have to get some more river poems under my belt soon....

Paula, you're welcome to join us every year!

Enchantress, now you know this is my third year to post a River Festival poem.  I do so enjoy looking forward to this weekend!

Yes Nan...and when are you going to come join the festivities? Hmmm???

Ghost...no, Sir...I can't paint, unless it's a wall, and one color.  LOL...but thank you for thinking I might have that much talent.  The best I can do is find some great stuff and really want it - and it's ALWAYS more than I can afford [you know the old saying - steak taste - hamburger budget!]

Karilea, I loved this outing with you on at your "Riverfest" event. We also have a Riverfest here in our town. It's a big event here. The larger city where I'm from has events almost every week-end, but the ones here are planned for and everybody from all around goes to them...even people from the larger city. Maybe I can take you with me on our "Riverfest" event. It will be next month.
Hugs, my friend
Ethel

(Pssstttt!!!! They have an event here called "Scratch Ankle"!!  LOL)
