Hands mill moist dirt to quench deep hurt, From the seams and the reams; I plant new seed to replace each bleed Of many a midnight dream. From wings I have shaken thoughts that have taken A bite of fresh sprung leaf, Hands dig deep soil not a bother, nor toil, As the sun shines sweet relief. I weed the roots of bulbs and shoots, And prepare the land down under, And await cool rain to dispel disdain, As the sky, she cries with thunder. I sleep slight wink of eyes which blink, 'Tis my pillow adorned with fear; Restless eve repeats until a new day greets A seedling to appear. A blooming sunflower in my garden bower I reap what I have sown, For thy restless night and worrisome plight, Gave birth to a golden throne. Now the noonday sun, thy work be done, As twilight doth begin; And to sacred flower, growing taller each hour, I retreat to dreams again. |

Sue, you are very talented, you know? This is a very beautiful poem. I was going to highlight a part, but I loved it all so much that I couldn't pick out a favorite. I love the way you are rhyming through the whole poem. It is so pretty, I'm going to keep it, too. Hope you don't mind? Hugs Ethel |

Ed - thought you may like this . . . Shara - they certainly do thank you Linda - you are an angel! So sweet - God, thank you so much Ethel - of course I dont mind, I am honored this was a part of my challenge Vicky gave me PATIENCE to write of! The first one I used alliteration, imagery, internal rhyme, personification and simile all at once. Thank you so much I like trying different forms xxoo /pip/Forum7/HTML/000573.html [This message has been edited by littlewing (07-30-2003 10:35 AM).] |

I'm in agreement about this being the best work of yours that I've read thus far. Your use of language and symbolism is nothing short of professional, and the fascinating use of rhyme really drew my attention in and held my interest to the very end. This is poetry at its finest. quote: Those lines gave me a real smile. You've got quite the imagination, my girl... Sharon - Good God thank you so much . . . I am humbled Michele - I knew it would, I just knew it would thank you Raph - like I know what patience is? ahahahah . . . that was a good one up there OK the only way I could describe it was waiting for a flower to bloom . . . lets see the actual definition goes: (Merriam- Webster) 1. bearing pain or trials calmly HA 2. not hasty AHA 3. steadfast despite adversity AHAHA (Sue's definition) 1. sitting red-faced with boiling anger 2. veins popping out of forehead 3. being calm all day then flipping out and visiting your local liquor store and thank you, it does mean a lot to me xxoo All of you have made me smile so much today! Thanks guys xxoo [This message has been edited by littlewing (07-30-2003 02:44 PM).] |

I don't often tread here in Open, but LP directed me towards this...and I'm very glad he did. I was really taken by this poem, Sue...and every time I read it, I see more, so I keep reading it and reading it and...yeah. Think I'm going to do more of that. Thanks for the renewal. ~Carly "How inimitably graceful children are in general before they learn to dance!" |

I agree, you are reaching new heights in your work Sue. But you are just amazing that way--always a delightful surprise. Gleeful hugs! and speaking of patience, I have to go BE one tomorrow, but I'll be back around. and with that, I'll tell you one of my famous corny jokes: A guy goes into to see the doctor, saying: "Doctor, doctor, you have to help me! I think I'm shrinking!" The Doc replies with a shrug, "Well, you're just going to have to be a little patient." GROAN... |
