When asked to do this challenge
of writing something unlike my ususal love stuff
I am having a most difficult time
for me it is unusually tough

This word they chose for me this time
is something I don't show much of
It is the word "intolerance"
one I think is an opposite of patience and love

So as I ponder my thoughts
of what intolerance is to me
Please have patience with me
as I see what this poem will be

The most obvious thing I can think of
where I show a definite intolerance of others
Is where someone is hateful and biased
treating others unlike sisters and brothers

Whether they do this from their own prejudices
of others lifestyles, or beliefs
Why can't they think of how people are treated
and give them some kind of relief

Maybe they would be able to do this
if they would walk one day in the others shoes
And see that in this life we live
some people are hated for who they are, or the choices they choose

So if someone is different from you
by their religion, lifestyle, color, or something other
Please do not show them hatred or intolerance
just love them like a sister or a brother

Please

I know how it feels, this writing out of the box thing. it was almost impossible for me to write a happy poem. but this is beautiful Ethel. still, it spoke of intolerance, but didn't write from that point of veiw. You know what?  i loved it we all know how sweet you are

insanity is not a crime

Ethel:

now you took a nice twist on the
challenge and showed intolerance
exactly as you see it
and I do agree . . .
Touche once again

Amen.  Isn't that what God intended
for all of us to be - brothers and
sisters, all of His family?

Good job!  Challenge well met!

I'm not sure I understand why a person is like that. I always feel it's unfair to get in to someone's face about what they believe, because we all believe what we do for a reason. There is some influence that brings us to what we believe. Either we are raised with a certain belief, OR we go through something on a *personal* level and find it out for *ourselves.* Beliefs, well I think beliefs come from lot's of factors in our lives up until *we* make our own personal decision about any given thing we choose to believe in. I believe in God, and if someone else does not that only tells me that was not their influence, OR it was their influence and they saw things along the road that seemed to not gel. Just didn't add up. There is *always* some reason why a person believes whatever it is they do believe and what gives us the right to judge that. We don't know the whole story. We don't know what brought them to that decision, and more than that we don't know that some traumatic experience brought them to that belief. That is even that much more the reason to be tolerant and just love them through that. It's not fair and it's VERY selfish to expect someone else to be just like we choose to be. What works for one.. may be the detriment to another. I loved this write!!! So sorry for the long comment.

Ethel...It's hard to write an emotion that you don't feel yourself.  You did a great job with this, sweet lady!
