morning

walking white and green hills
(limestone, cedar)
a dry south wind
whispers of eternity

demons of the air
touch fire to my bare chest
(it's a bad year
for horseflies)

you can see for miles
up here
you can see for years
too

here was a home
now only bits of
glass stone metal

and most of a wineglass
whose hand cast it there?

was it a girl? a wife? a mother?
was she lonely here?
did she love this life?
or did she long for
something else?

if she were here
I would tell her everything
I feel
and she could tell me
anything

(it's ok to be lonely
but not to stay lonely)

do normal people
dream so much
of other lovers?
probably not

noon

the light has chased all shadows
into the cool below the cedars
the white limestone
glimmers like strange ice
in the July heat

once, long ago
I did acid here
isn't this be a great
place for acid?

do normal people do acid
more that once or twice?
probably not

I've been trying hard
to be normal
for the past twenty years
or so

so I guess I'd better
not do any acid

afternoon

I've gone down now
taken my family
to picnic at the lake

normal family
normal picnic

but my mind is still there
in the white and green  hills
looking into the eyes
of an auburn haired girl

(darkest eyes
framed in hornrims
from a forgotten time)

she's telling me her secrets
and watching the colors
that you can only see
on acid

sorry
I really do try
to be normal
nobody's perfect
my momma would say

did I mention
what a bad year
it is for horseflies?

Interesting write...
Enjoyed the monologue...
There was something so honest and grounded here that I read it a few times, and smiled more each trek up and back. TD

I really did like this . A very good ending, too.

I enjoyed reading about your morning, noon and afternoon--what about your night?!?

Warm hugs,
EA
