A Simple Step

It was just a step, a small simple step,
From light to darkness, concealing darkness,
There yet now unseen.
If I listen I’ll hear your voice on a summer’s night
And images eyes sparkling light starlight,
Maybe see footprints in the grass
Or hear the clink of a beer glass,
Maybe I’ll see your gray dogs
Chasing after you in the fog
And know you hear they’re baying too
Even though they can’t keep up to you
With that last small step, just a simple step.
The fight is all over know,
Even defeated you won somehow
For you didn’t fear that step to elsewhere
Never did though you fought hard to stay here,
Rest peacefully my friend
We’ll meet again.
