Between a laugh and a tear...

Shattered Doors

A story now has to be told
Of a kindly man, not so old
His father’s son, ‘twas plain to see
He plied his trade, on bitter seas

An honest life for a simple man
Gave a father’s love, and a guiding hand
He tried to teach right from wrong
To live and love, and sing their song

A life entrenched in pain and pride
Yet through it all, never took sides
Misunderstood, lived to his plan
Thought a fool for that peaceful stand

Throughout time these lands flowed red
And still violence grows, such a fertile bed
A slaughterhouse in the guise of religions call
This one now chosen, his time to fall

Doors gave way with deafening crash
Then thunderclaps and lightning flash
A peace left shattered at a fool’s behest
While life explodes from shredded chest

There’s no rhyme or reason, to be sure
To leave a child transfixed on shattered doors
‘Twas for the cause, and still that’s the call
Another legacy, for when a boy stands tall

And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand ~ Bernie Taupin

No, there's not even room for people who would seek peace, it seems.

A quietly executed, careful writing, Sir...but it came from the heart.  Thank you.

and the boy most certainly stands tall..tall with courage and being the great significant person he is today b/c of it...who knows why?  Who cares why?  The value in this is that we are here, today and alive...within a fresh new dawn...
Thank you for a great read and poem shared...lovely
