Ahh,   my love...
You know not of passion
that rests, churning the timid breast.
Nor the sadness at day’s break,
knowing I am here, not there.

I have watched thy beauty through
a million fluttering beats, a thousand
muted sighs.  Blindness would only
take thee into the mind, sheltering
an image against the ravage of age.

I dream of thee. Of the flow of a gown
within the lightest breeze.  Of eyes
sparkling of the morning’s dew,
christened by honey of a thousand
bees.  My rest is my only course.
For he, not I,  has chosen you.

Hobbled, as the stallion tied away
from the prized mare, I stand beyond
the courtyard, against the elements,
ever faithfully guarding, ensuring
you live...my life remains yours.

One day, the bones of this mortal
and meager man shall bleach upon
the sands as carrion feast upon
the last dregs of my form.
Though I shall not be, I will...
For in this body a soul, stronger
than all the earth’s energy....rests.

And that soul shall carry your image
into the cosmos, where stars shall
shine brightly upon you, as I stand
quietly at the gates, eternally
guarding your rest.
