Far out to sea the petrel flew, looking for the trawlers wake, with dangling feet he dipped for food, the off cuts of the early catch. With belly full and wings well rested, he headed for the windblown mainland. Westerly to a craggy islet, gliding on the salt spray wind. The sea below looked dark, then rose and ushered in torrential rain, with wet wings, the petrel slowed, then plunged into the angry liquid wrath. White surf teeth, towered above him, trying desperately to flee the demon liquid, rain lashed down and thunder rumbled inside his tiny ears. Furiously flapping, he plummeted, before smashing into lightening lit rocks. Climbing and clawing, his heart fluttering faster than his own black wings, trying to make his escape. But the demon liquid rose again, with spiral arches, to claim him once more. White liquid foam, shone from his own black eyes, drfiting on heaving waves, electric blue lightening lit his way, and the demon liquid played out it's wicked game. With one collosal surge,it spewed the stricken bird forth, and on to the derelict beach. The petrel woke, with debris festooned around him, to find a calmer hour. Rising to his feet, he examined his cuts and wounds and broken feathers, he had survived the demon sea. Taking to the air on shaky wings, he flew to safety and rest. |
