This day found me tossing sad carnations upon the mound that holds you instead of my arms, where you belonged. What words could I say? Nothing remotely profound fell from these trembling lips. All I could say was 'Goodbye, I loved you.' Pity I never spoke those words before. With the afternoon heat you quietly rose to the distant clouds above. Then it began to rain. How appropriate for the moment. The walk away from you took my feet forever, that marker staring at my backside with your last image burned upon my soul. Goodbye. I loved you. I am truly sorry I never told you before you went away. |
