(This is written upon the tragedy that happened yesterday for the family of a young boy (Ryan) I tutor with of 11 years of age. When visiting his 17 year old brother Nathan after a psychiatrist session, after he received his third strike for failing to show discipline and getting further treatment and punishment in result, he threw a violent temper and in front of Ryan and his mother started cutting his arms with a knife and leaving them to have to see himself bleed in anguish! Nathan has been sent to a mental hospital and now Ryan's family may not see him again in risk of his tempers resulting in violence against his loved ones! When I talked to yan on the phone last night, he said he felt "unsound" and this song came to my mind which I wrote in a half an hour! Please pray for him and his parents!

Unsound
By: Noah Eaton
6/3/03

Seventeen years old and uncouth
Seemed kind of selfish to tell you the truth
With holes in his khakis and a tendency to fail to behave
Nicotine patches up and down his arms
Can't seem to clear the plutonium from his scars
A miscarriaged angel standing in a vertical grave

And your little brother never had the time
To turn away as you wounded yourself with that knife
Now when you turn around
It all seems to feel unsound...

Nature never seemed to accept your miscegnation
Never had the patience for rehabilitation
You tightened your fear around your waist like a Sam Browne belt
And your little brother never had the time
To turn away as you wounded yourself with that knife
Now when you turn around
It all seems to feel unsound
Now when you turn around
It all seems to feel unsound

You're screaming out in dismay,
"I'm not crazy, I'm only misunderstood!"
If only we knew where to put most of the blame
God only knows that you could
They lock you away so you can pray in vain
So your brother won't have to run away
Did we miscalculate?
Or simply got tangled in a twist of fate?
And your little brother never had the time
To turn away as you wounded yourself with that knife
Now when you turn around
It all seems to feel unsound
Now when you turn around
It all seems to feel unsound...

You say you see him like a hulk from the outside
But like some border collie from the inside
Why must compromise wear itself a minus sign?
Because your little brother never had the time
To turn away as you wounded yourself with that knife
Now the world spins round and round
You say everything feels unsound
Now the world spins round and round
You say everything feels unsound
Now the world spins round and round
You say everything feels unsound
Now the world spins round and round
You say everything feels unsound...

Take my hand,
I'm feeling a bit unsound...
Take my hand,
I'm feeling a bit unsound...
Take my hand,
I'm feeling a bit unsound...
Take my hand,
I'm feeling a bit unsound...
I'm only feeling unsound right now...

Underneath your clothes, there's an endless story

Noah, this is so heartbreaking. You have managed to capture so well the feelings that must have run through the minds of all that day.  I have two sons with ADHD and know the turmoil it can cause. Thank God, neither of mine ever went this far.  I will continue to keep this young man in my prayers.

Be a friend to his brother; I'm sure he needs you.  Luvs, Marti

Noah,
Tragedies seem to be all around us. Very sad indeed. But a lovely write.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Noah, this is terribly sad. I do hope and pray everything will be well for all involved. You have written about this near tragedy vividly. hugs, Chris

Noah,

I am truly sorry for the sadness in your life and in the life of your friend.  I hope that all works out for the best...whatever that may be.  You have an outlet for expressing your feelings in your music and your song.  I hope that your friend will also find an outlet that is rewarding.
