I hope that one day everything will change Ignorance will fall to the concept of understanding That someday people will be praised Not ridiculed for their unique qualities That someday the land of the free will be truly free Free to express new thoughts without fear of rejection Free to be who you really are Not who others want you to be I hope that someday people will realize That self-acceptance is the first step to being accepted That one day people will recognize Trying to gain attention at all costs is not the way And that negative attention leads to exclusion That one day men and women, black and white Will stand together Regardless of differing beliefs Standing together as a species, a family United not under God But under one ideal: Tolerance Tolerance for others For race, religion or creed Taking time to get to know people Not just a half-attempt But really get to know them and their intricacies Get behind the walls The real person behind the mask That someday bombs will stop being dropped That senseless violence will end That ridiculous killing of others for their thoughts Will stop They say time heals all wounds I just hope we have enough time |

Someday sounds like heaven... And welcome to Passions! Hope you love it here half as much as I do. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. [This message has been edited by Larry C (06-06-2003 02:20 AM).] |

Absolutely wonderful read. I was just thinking about my students at the high school where I substitute teach. I don't have a regular classroom, but I have recently applied for a full-time position about which I am very excited. I will have my own classroom. If I get this position, I would like to post this poem in my classroom...with your permission, of course. Thank you for sharing this. Patricia |
