For Robert Pinsky the loss of a world he said, and I realized the thousand deaths I had died. the other hand he immortalized, and I found myself by his hand lead. always in rhythm, or terza rhyme, poet jerseyian seduced my mind, donovan knew, the future he saw, jersey thursdays, his love afar; strange was I, sitting cross-legged, mouth agape, filled with dread, greatness stood in my reach, a touch that thousands did teach; each hand he shook, each life, to him so real, so singular - not pretense just reception, his lessers his betters seemed to be, but only because his presence raised them high. -majnu -------------------------------------- Timid thoughts be not afraid. I am a Poet. [This message has been edited by majnu (05-28-2003 09:39 PM).] |

I read this three times before I realized why the name Robert Pinsky is familiar. Sheesh. I've got a couple of his books too. Sigh. Somewhere. I admit I don't know much of his life, however, but you managed to peak my curiosity with your well-written poem. Thanks. (and pssst? Knowing your attention to detail? Line five? rhythm... ) Enjoyed, maj. |
