Our Song

It use to be   our song
"You don't have to say you love me,
just be close at hand..."

"You don't have to stay forever,
I will understand..."

Funny how that became true.

The ride home was filled
with those oldies but goodies.
I turned them up loud, to drown out feelings,
my throat attempting to sing on key.

Those memories came flooding back,
Dusty Springfield, Vietnam,
loneliness and letters with promises.

I drove home through the pouring rain,
the wipers keeping rhythm with my thoughts,
the windows fogging with each breath I sang.

Maybe it was a premonition,
maybe I was doomed from the start
and maybe that is why the words
"I Love You" mean so much to me now.

M

Yeah, I was listening to an oldie station just the other night and the song "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" brought back a flood of memories...I can't always listen because songs become attached to memories...James

Q, it was a long ride home and pouring down...flooding the roads and my mind..when a favorite song came on and the memories relived.

Hey Margie... I love those oldies. How come I can remember all those words and I have such a hard time with the newer songs?

Thank you Vandana

JamesMichael, all the oldies have attached memories. I can relive exactly where I was  and when. I use to tear up, now I just recall in smiles.
thank you

I love the "oldies"..and the Soft Rock
of today. Our Soft Rock station still plays
a lot of the oldies, so I hear the best of both.

They can certainly bring back memories...
some good, some bad...

I enjoyed this, Maureen.

There is nothing wrong with a little reminiscing, as Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull put it, "Let's go living in the past."

Enjoyed!

I like to listen to lyrics I can understand Dixie...I never could enjoy hard rock or those where the music and beat overtake the words.

Thank you Ethel. It's probably my age or maybe it is that whatever generation we are, it's the music and words of our teens and growing up years that we love the most.

O, I think sometimes living in our past is where all the good times are...but how am I to know...my future is just beginning

Thanks
M

Long ago
the words began to fall
familiar,
a smile now
a tear then
and youthful excess
now tempered
I can listen
once again

so true, Ron...so I guess you can call me tempered.

I no longer cry at those meaningful songs.
