Single Have you noticed a single rose brightens a room How a single sincere smile lifts our gloom A simple wish upon a single shooting star Brings hope to one helpless heart from afar How a single word uttered to Him in isolation To a weary soul brings tremendous consolation And what of a single kiss upon a child’s cheek It can overflow her heart with comfort she seek Have you noticed how a single voice in the night Sings a single sweet song with melody’s delight How only a single thought can powerfully incite The meek of this world to fight the good fight And what of that single invitational glance It sparks the sweet sixteen's first romance And, of course, there is just that single sun That brings universal warmth to everyone I could go on and on in my illustrations Go as far as scientific demonstrations For so much can be said of this single sum Lifting spirits and breaking humdrum Bringing inspirational bright to our day Lighting night that we may find our way So, perhaps you can see why I find it absurd Such loneliness be felt by this single word |

How only a single thought can powerfully incite The meek of this world to fight the good fight It's the little things we give away, a simple gesture means so much. Your thoughts are beautiful Patricia~ |

We are born from togetherness into aloneness; we live alone with the yearning to touch the oneness of another and share the moment's togetherness. Of course the word is at times troubling; we all feel it at various times. Well written poem. Thank you for sharing it. [This message has been edited by icebox (05-26-2003 01:45 AM).] |

Patricia, you really single handedly, in single space for that matter, summed up many of the definitions of the word, single. If I may, I’d like to throw in my single minded feelings about the word, double? Double You ever notice, that when you... Go double dutch on a double date For some double-decker sandwiches and double latte’s With double scoops of ice cream for dessert While she reads a book from Doubleday That, your actually having a double rough day? Or if you decide to go To a double feature To watch, Double Indemnity Then off to the track to double your money on the daily double Then maybe catch a double header Where your team loses in a double play That, that ain’t all that much fun either? Or, when you go play doubles in tennis You and your buddy against these, “Doublemint Twins!” And they’re double teaming you And your starting to get double vision Cause they’re both wearing double knit sweaters plus they‘re both double jointed! So you get out of there double quick double timing it over to your double wide trailer that your buddy double crossed you by leaving it double parked And the lady cop starts to accuse you of bribery... Cause your trying to double talk your way out of a double fine And now you wish you had a double edged sword or a double barrel shotgun So you could give your friend a double whammy! That now, you could be in double jeopardy? Whew!!! Well Patricia, all I know now is that... I think, I’m going to go and have me a nice strong drink... In fact... Make that, a double... lol As always Patricia, a great write! Richy |

Thanks for all of your replies to this single poem. Richie...I don't know, I had to have double vodka and a double dose of Tylenol after reading your double, double toil and trouble...LOL It just seems when the word single is uttered, we get those sympathetic, albeit well meaning condolences. They forget we can in the singular do so much for others. I blow a single kiss to all of you, Patricia |

Yep, I've been there at times. It not always easy being "Single". “We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best that we can find in our travels is an honest friend.” –Robert Louis Stevenson |
