Spoils Of War

you sit with your counselors
making glistening speeches to each other
spinning lots for bones
so prideful in all
you think, you have won
trying to convince them
it never even mattered to you
it was just the strategy of the playing
and now something stinks
is this what they meant by
the spoils of war
your laughter immerses with theirs
those back slappers with so much padding
feeding your ego as you boost theirs
with lacquered tones only they understand
I wonder if the pain you caused
keeps you awake at night
or do you only feel pain… that hits you
those bullets shot in careless aim
and not without lack of practice

you wear shame now as your medal of honor
and now that that shame is on you, I pity you
for sooner or later there will be
a time of peace and you will have
no one
to play with

Wow, there's sure some emotion being expressed here!  A very poetic butt-kicking. . .

A departure from your usual presentations.
I like it though, especially the "attitude."
It fits the topic.

We can only WISH it did, sweet lady~
But ... I doubt it !
'They' are only concerned with their rewards !
Oh whoopie .... 'another' star to shine (as if anyone really gives a tinker's polish) !

Whoa...am I seeing things ... did you slip up, or did I (actually) see some of the "P" symbols in this???

Very well written, hard hitting piece here Slick...left me with a long drawn-out "WOW" at the end....

Great.
