(Toerag's latest poem about wanting to be like me made me reach back into the past and pull out this little ditty, with a few adjustments ) . . . When Toerag turned sixteen years old Still on his mama's knee His mother asked her little son, "What do you want to be?" He put his bowl of pablum down And spoke out loud and clear As spittle dribbled down his chin, I WANNA BE LIKE BALLADEER! His mother laughed so hard she dropped The youngster on his rear And said, "Son, that's impossible... There's just one Balladeer!" In school the teachers asked him For the choice of his career.. His answer always was the same.. I WANNA BE LIKE BALLADEER! They said, "Son, be a astronaut, A physicist or such, A writer or a surgeon... Lawyers, too, can earn quite much. Set your sights on just one goal Then strive to perservere Don't dwell on the impossible.. There's just one Balladeer!" One day along the boardwalk With a sharp stick in his hand Toe was passing time by drawing Pictures in the sand. A small lamp washed upon the shore And Toerag rubbed its side Releasing one humongous genie Which had been inside. "I thank you, master", said the genie In a roaring voice. "For freeing me I'll grant you any One wish of your choice." "Oh, boy!", laughed Toerag. "Now, at last My destiny is here! Good genie, grant me this one wish.. I WANNA BE LIKE BALLADEER!!" The genie dived back in the lamp! Toe watched him disappear, Saying, "Throw me back into the sea! There's just one Balladeer!!!" He struggled hard throughout his life. He studied till he dropped. He worked his fingers to the bone with drive that never stopped. He gave it everything he had To emulate his peer But always came up way too short Of matching Balladeer. An old man now, still sitting on The lap of his poor mama He said, "I'm off to India To find that Dally Lama!" "No smarter man lives on the earth. I'll travel to Cashmere And force that guy to tell me How to be like Balladeer!" So off he went to India... He scaled the mountains tall And found the Dali Lama In a small cave in the wall... He said, "Please help me, Lama guy. My end is drawing near. I must fulfill my final goal.... I WANNA BE LIKE BALLADEER!!!" The Lama smiled and said, "All right... Catch moonbeams in your hand... Speak words of love so sweet that Only angels understand... Make rainbows change their colors Make the lion lose its roar Cause the morning dove to call your name Bid Hell to close its door... Make every female on this earth Feel like she's Gueneviere With Lancelot riding by her side.... And you'll be Balladeer." Poor Toerag stumbled from the cave Into the setting sun. He knew the secret now and knew That it could not be done.. He was never seen alive again. His time is done, I fear… This foolish lad who thought that he Could be like Balladeer. They say on nights when winds grow fierce And dark clouds hide the moon A low moan echoes through the hills In melancholy tune.. It is a haunting, sad refrain Too low for human ear… Poor Toerag screaming out in pain, I WANNA BE LIKE BALLADEER!!!! |

Well, Michael, we can't blame you for this, because our Mr. Toe asked for it. Didn't he? At least you didn't do what you usually do. LOL You both are a delight. What would we do without ya'll. I sure hope we never have to find out. Heart hugs, to you both, Ethel [This message has been edited by garysgirl (05-20-2003 06:26 PM).] |

LOL....I remember this one. There is only one Balladeer and we are lucky that we have him here. Remembering how I miss the poetry wars. *sigh* Marilyn |

This is exceptionally brill !!! Enjoyed it emensely, except I now have the most incredible urge to hug Toe and wave my magic wand and turn him into a clone of you--just to finally make his dream come true. I must add this in closing, Toe aspired to greatness! Huggums, EA |

The Illusive Balladeer I searched mountains high and valleys low But the great Balladeer I have yet to know And though I have tried with all of my might He illusively remains just out of my sight So, if you see him, please tell him for me What a grand chuckle he provided with his poetry. Thanks, I really needed this. I had to go back and read this one aloud. Thank goodness my kids aren't home...they already think I am weird! -Patricia |

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Balladeer, this truly is a tragic tale, which the morale of the story is either believe in yourself and don't let others determine your life...or perhaps simply there is only one Balladeer, hehehe! (giggles) No...wait...that's not funny, excuse me, yay, this is wonderful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Balladeer, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton Underneath your clothes, there's an endless story |

The Lama smiled and said, "All right... And you'll be Balladeer." ============================== ROFL ... a classic, thats for sure... and beyond all the jester of this...one cant help but notice besides the dead on cadence...your imagery is delightful... a serious poet writing poetry on light side. Either way...its all good Yer the DEER I refuse to accept that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism & war that the daybreak of peace can never be reality. |

Mothers give such wise advice Toe's Mom was no exception She hoped that he'd appreciate His own claims to perfection. It's a shame that in your quest You went to such lengths, dear Toe For you can't be Balladeer - You'd never match the ego! |

Yea, g'head and compliment this old fart...can't you see his ego is bigger than Florida already?...Yea, just what he needs....white lies to make him feel even better about himself......great write Bally.....I don't want to be like you...I just want the money you've pilfered all these years from all those poor retirees down in Florida..."Yes ma'am, I found this cricket out in your yard, I guess you know what that means? Yep, crickets bring spiders, spiders bring mice, mice leave droppings, roaches eat droppings....you'll have to sign this contract for 40 years so we can save you from this onslaught..." |
