"....In experiments done in the 1960s and 1970s, plants responded best to Classical and Indian devotional music. In a controlled environment, plants exposed to these kinds of music had lush and abundant growth and good root development. Jazz music as well produced more abundant growth. Exposure to country music or silence brought about no abnormal growth reaction. With rock music, plants did poorly. Their roots were scrawny and sparse and they seemed to be in a dying stage. Plants exposed solely to white noise died quickly."

---------Science and Technology Department of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburg--------

All plants are beneficial.
Many brighten up our days
With fragrances and beauty
That delight in many ways.
So when it comes to music
Please be careful what you play.
They can't endure too much manure..
Be kind to your plant today!!!

Let classics make their lushness thrive
Like Wagner, Lizst and Bach.
No moss will grow on Rolling Stones
Or any groups of Rock.
Let sitar music soothe those petals.
Ravi, where'd you go?
Bring back those sounds of yesterday
To make our houseplants grow!

Why, even country sounds ok.
Bring on that rootin'-tootin'
Bluegrass sound and country twang
To get those pistils shootin'!!
Hey, Benny Goodman! Let your horn
Make those red roses regal.
There's just one plant that goes with Rock
And it's declared illegal!!

For everything they give to us
There's not much more to say.
Guns and Roses just don't mix..
Be kind to your plant today!!!!

Aww Balladeer I love this! It is so true. Plants do respond to the right type of music. Mine like Shania Twain and Barbra Streisand. Really. Then again...the ivy seems to lean towards show tunes....hmmmm...lol. Great write. hugs, Chris

Doesn't the same apply to people
That you love and care about?
When you want a romantic evening
You play no record that will shout

I treat my plants like I treat people
I talk to them and touch their skin
Then they'll give me all their beauty
Because I've touched their cords within

There's the rose, that says 'I love you'
And the little blue 'forget me not'
Stinging nettles keep their distance
Still their burning spots I've got

Play your music to all living creatures
And you'll receive their love and care
But when a dissonance is heard
It's not beauty they're about to share

Ahhh Deer, it's been too long since we've enjoyed your play of words, your music comes through loud and clear.

Now am I being too corny if I say this poem was music to "my" ears?

It's so wonderful to read the cadence and rhyme of you, my 'Deer. I thoroughly enjoyed this piece, for both it's factual value, and the humour you pulled in, to bring the points home and make us smile.

Best wishes and big hugs,
/Kit

We thank you, Michael, and our plants and
flowers do, too. I love the poem
as well as the graphics.

so that's why all my plants are trying to die on me in here...

I will change the music and see if it really works.

Another good one, Deer.

(smiles) My clematises, tulips, lilacs, and daffodils really love Shakira, sure, she has a rock sound in her music, but she also has a big Arabic twist in her music and they just want to get up and dance and sway! (big hugggssssssss) They also seem to enjoy matchbox twenty, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Balladeer, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Nan..giving your plants freedom is always good!!!

Nightshade..no living thing would refuse to respond to Shania Twain!!!

Enchantress..I have no doubt they are responding in their own way. How could they not???

teledon..thanks for reading and such kind words!

carol..I thank you....yes, plants are wonderful things..

titia...aw, that was so sweet. I can imagine you touching your plants...no wonder the Dutch love tulips!!!

passing shadows....thanks for passing by again!

SUnshine...just a little something to come out of hibernation. Plants LOVE sunshine!!

Kit....not corny at all since you are a true flower in so many ways. You excel with dew...and duets!

Ethel...tell your plants thank you and hello from me..glad you liked!!

casey...I know just what you mean! I'll be anxious to hear how they do...

Sy, they are MUCH smarter! They just sit around, smell nice, don't do much and feel at home in dirt. Jeez, I just described my ex-wife!!!

Maureen...now I'm curious as to what music you play there! Go smooth and mellow and watch those sunflowers turn bright yellow!

Pat...nice of you to stop by and enjoy. Thank you...

Noah...if they get up and start swaying let me know!! I can think of uses for Shakira myself! Thanks, my friend...

LOL at this one, but I'm a believer,
yeah.
I had a ficus that curled up and died when listening to;
WE WILL WE WILL ROCK YOU!
no kidding.

and ?
my ferns grew seductively longer
when listening to pianist
Keith Jarrett.
I kid you not.
