I lay the blade of steel upon the hearth for now the foe has dealt a deadly blow. My bones shall rest beneath the waiting earth as winter winds bring sleet and flaking snow. My life I give that thee might live anew upon the grass of meadow green and high. My heart once rushed with flow of crimson hue that thee survive though others wish thee die. Lay not my shield beneath the earthen mound or spur the steed to pasture without mare. Plant but one tree within the sod and ground for now my soul has gone to heaven’s air. When love is left and given free of rein a light shall burn within the window nigh. And in the stars my sight will be again to ride upon the glen and mountain high.
