When the Skies Cry

I am not adverse
in enjoying lush pleasures,
though hesitant enough
with nature
to acknowledge
the drought is over.

It feels over,
it smells over, it sounds over,
as birds fly through air moist
from earlier morning rainfall,

but I am loath to say
It Is Over!
The Drought Is Over!!
Halleluiah!!

Fate is that quick
to bring the heat of summer
into the swell of spring
and dry the green
before it reaches my knees.

I do not tempt fate
but would ease into the coming days,
taking one at a time,
thanking God for each drop of rain
released from the heavens,
while careful not to say
Oh!  It could rain like this all day!

I know perversity.

I know to be thankful
for everything received,
to not lift a fist when a prayer
is not answered.  Cycles are as anything else,
a reliving of the past, putting faith into each
footstep forward,
making do with what we have,
and making the most
of what we do not.

For now, I will be thankful for the rain,
and store my knowledge
for the drought.

When the skies cry, you do not! --for you know blessings come in many forms. Lovely poem of thanks and appreciation.

but I am parched to crack

Another excellent poem, Karilea! I love the lines:

"making do with what we have,
and making the most
of what we do not."

If we could learn to be thankful in all circumstances (Even the drought!), we would be a lot happier.

Blessings,

Ben

This is extremely beautiful and wise.  Do you remember when we talked about the "waiting for the fall" a couple of days ago? I guess my mind didn't grasp it...didn't really link to how you felt.  My friend, it does now.  You have explained it to me.  You are trying to tell us we should delight in the rain today and feel blessed...for tomorrow drought may come.  In this way, we will never take our blessings for granted and never live for tomorrow, but rather savor the sweetness of today.

Sunshine, you are a philosopher extraordinaire.

Thanks for enlightening me yet again,
-Patricia

Perhaps a quiet observation that the drought is over bodes better than tempting fate by dancing in the rain...no way..go for the dance, Karilea..

believe in what your heart feels...

It is interesting what we can learn from adversity....and even a drought has lessons to teach us...not the lease of which is gratitude....I loved my trip through this poem...

Shall we get on our knees and give thanx
for this blessing of rain...and pray that
it doesn't just go "poof"....

Thanx KJ, enjoyed the ride.  Well done..

Karilea, this is a beautiful write... And how true it is!

When the skies cry, it may bring about rejoice from those below... The rain seems to have arrived to wash away all unhappiness and all that's unclean. Just like our tears that we release in times of sadness and frustration. After which, we are strong again to face the world

Do you remember the smell in the air, just before it rains? I think that it is a most refreshing smell, and it even smells of excitement and anticipation.

Hello Sunshine, this is so true, to be grateful and not just expect. We here are going through a seven year drought, we are getting a little rain; dams in the area that feed the towns are down to 8%, so trucks are carting water from Melbourne to them each day. May it rain and rain, that prayer must be said so often.

I enjoyed your work here, and the thoughts within.

Sincerely
Rick
