I might have had a favorite bear to cuddle needed to refer to some comfort..to huddle away from the chill bite of winter winds hidden somewhere where there was traquility. That a parakeet's company meant so much it succumbed to desease..there was a hush some tears were shed.. hearts spang a leak..bled consoled with another to take its place the corner of the living room..offered space. The need to write to a special friend and say 'stick around to the very end.' consolation broke when distance divided reality spoke up when flight took hold experience came by the book..grew bold. might have had a favorite game around the house and read beyond curfew..silent as a mouse removed from the chill bite of winter winds buried beneath the covers on a dark lonely night. grew to know how to console another's sorrow reconcile the past and see a brighter tomorrow developed a knack of seeing myself from the outside put some peace between me and trivial circumstances this material world...is all but a brief instance so why nuture heart pains life has its strains wiser to be gentler on myself. at one point it sounds like the person's spirit is at peace, and then at another, burdened by sadness. |

I suppose that is what consolation is all about... to help relieve our conscience of disquieting burdens so as to attain peace of mind...but that is so fragile...thanks for sharing |

It's wise to be gentle to oneself indeed... |

(big huggssssss) It can be so much harder when you get so hard on yourself, and I can forgive those many times when I was left defenseless and dropped off on the shoulder lane and to appreciate oneself is an even bigger advantage! (sigh) This is so wonderfully expressed, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martin, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Loner, I did think of you when I wrote this, you and Noah..and myself..you are not the only one who feels something isn't right with how you feel about yourself..so it's always good to be positive and make that shine through |

An uplifting piece. I like the second stanza quite a bit, it was just unusual enough to keep me interested throughout the rest of the poem. Nicely written. Parasite "Faith" means the will to avoid knowing what is true. |

When I need some consolation and there is nobody around to give it, I grab my "cuddly bear" and a good "book" and I'm on my way to being consoled! I enjoyed this gentle and introspective piece from you! May you never have the need to be consoled, but if you do, I will send you some warm, loving hugs. EA |

Parasite, unusual in form as I'm still trying alternate rhyme endings like visual rhymes... using lot more reference to fiction/myth/hostorical opinion so alluding to them...thanks for sharing |

Sometimes it's easier said than done to be less hard on ourselves. We are often our own worst critics and toughest bosses |

Ruth, I see your point, that's what spurred the motivation on this one..the need to spend less head time on analysis and just doing what my heart was set on...being as less harsh on myself as possible..utopia for me |

It's a great accomplishment to be able to see ourselves from outside ourselves. Enjoyed, as always. *s When you think you have heard it all, listen more closely. ~Dorene [This message has been edited by Chanson (02-22-2003 10:10 PM).] |

Wnderfully written...my path exactly, when i realized that i was my own worst enemy, I made a decision to be my own best friend, with God's help, I'm slowly learning how! It is a journey well worth the travel! Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

Martin, it's so true that to be able to console others you have to develop empathy by feeling loss yourself. You have a lot of wisdom in this one. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |
