See me here, I stand before you All my faults now in clear view Watch me now as walls are falling Mortar’s crumbling, bricks are too See the mask of ivory porcelain Thrown aside, cast to the ground Tears once dammed are freely flowing As my world falls all around Watch my past pour out in mirrors Kiss my eyes to ebb the flow Hold me now, here in the halflight As trembling to my knees I go Listen to the words I’m saying From tongue once mute, now truth is spilled Sense my fear as I am striping Each item shed shows more revealed Piece by piece it’s molt before you There’s nothing sacred, there’s nothing lost No more lies, no more disguises A new lease, Love’s paid the cost Whisper to me, my deaf ears hearing With your words, they’re opened wide I’m stumbling now, but I’m not fearing Because you’re standing by my side Look at all these imperfections Feel the scars I once had loathed As here I stand, now bared before you See me naked, though fully clothed [This message has been edited by Sunshine (03-27-2003 01:59 PM).] |

The flow, the rhyme, the message...are a thing of beauty--as are you as you lay yourself bare in this wonderful piece of writing. You and your poetry are both beautiful! Warm hugs, Linda |

Powerful in the way it invites squirming in the reader, and then knocks him upside the head with the ending. |

Thank you...it is not always easy to see ourselves naked, to totally expose ourselves and I am never so naked, so exposed, as when I write, for in my writing I tend to bare it all for the world to see and at times it leaves me feeling shaken, vulnerable. I know others feel this way too as I spoken to other poets, writers, about this sense of nakedness. I truly feel that one can not love completely without baring all, that is the precept behind this poem. So everyone, let's get naked!! [This message has been edited by hoot_owl_rn (02-20-2003 04:51 PM).] |

As a reader as well as a poet, I appreciate what you have said here in your poem and in your comment. I admit most of the time I do not read the poems of others as if they are written to me, but this poem really opens my eyes to how truly naked we all become before our reading audience. I had to go back and read your poem as if it were written to me and yes it did bring a tear to my eye.... So very honest and revealing you are my friend. --Thank you dear dear Poet. -Bob |

you paint a portrait of a woman adorned in sincerity and truth of heart. A most powerful introspective write Poetess Ruth and a most appropriate poem to reflect your work in the book "Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky ... |

It's hard for me to be objective about this one. My perspective is from the glazed over eyes of a love sick husband. I couldn't see any imperfections even if I wanted too. Truely in all seriousness Ruth you are a very talented poet, and most of the time you hit it right on. This one is right up there. Love, Rodger |

Ruth, What a delightfully candid write. But isn't it "stripping" not "striping". Either way I'm voting. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Could have sworn I'd replied to this... I was just checking in to see why this hadn't made it into the book yet. I adore your technique, the simple formatting of this poem lets it flow nicely enough and still not seem too strictly structured. I have trouble doing that... kudos to you. I vote. Parasite |

It takes a lot of character, confidence and courage to "bare" it all - but you've done it in a way that one really doesn't feel "naked" - like a beautiful piece of art, there for all to admire. I'm voting too. |
