A state of mind, a knowing?

     Or, a place of soul,
          of spiritual substance?

What is love,
     what does love mean?

My best friend is love,
     she I can ~feel~.

For she is ~respectful~
of who I am, just as I am.

For she is ~giving~
     wanting nothing in return.

For she is ~humble~
     placing self below me.

For she is ~trustworthy~
as I lay my private thoughts
     before her, she'll not betray.

For she is ~open-minded~
     considering our differences.

For she is ~truthful~
     teaching me honesty.

For she is ~strong~
     allowing me to be weak.

For she is ~courageous~
     allowing me to lay
          my fear upon her.

For she is ~non-judgemental~
     allowing for my imperfection.

For she is ~wise~
     knowing when to only listen.

For she is ~soul food~
     nourishing my spirit.

     That is what love is.

They say God is love.
     But, who is God?

         ~Love~

All these positive factors
          which my best friend
     possesses and gives to me.

          ~God~

Through her,
     Through me,
          Through you.

We can
     make a difference
                    if we just:

          ~LOVE~

I LOVE this poem! I wish I had written this it, for I too am fortunate to have such a friend as this.

Love for, and of, God and our fellow man/woman/child gives meaning to life.

LOVE definitely makes the world go 'round--as you have so eloquently illustrated with this fine poem!

Warm morning hugs,

hey, you joined in!

smiling here..i should have known that your submission will be of a spiritual nature...

i like "placing self below me"...it is probably just me but i am so used to reading "placing (insert) above self" that that line was more impactful than usual

AMEN
you've just described a best friend and described that love is actions to someone.. and not what some may think.
Yes, God is love   and we can see His love, in friends.

What a great friend you've described here who has given to you a face in which to associate with as Love (God) set in motion.  This is a beautiful poem that is certainly  worthy in my book for submission to our book. God continue to bless you my poet friend.

Just wanted to thank all of you for taking the time to read and reply.
I have to agree, this is true love and my friend has never let me down,
and a perfect example of God in human form. I feel blessed to have this loving person in my life. Glad you all relate.

Again, thanks to each of you.

OhPat~
Just how 'reflective' is this ?

'My best friend is love,
she I can ~feel~.

For she is ~respectful~
of who I am, just as I am.

For she is ~giving~
wanting nothing in return.

For she is ~humble~
placing self below me.

For she is ~trustworthy~
as I lay my private thoughts
before her, she'll not betray.

For she is ~open-minded~
considering our differences.

For she is ~truthful~
teaching me honesty.

For she is ~strong~
allowing me to be weak.

For she is ~courageous~
allowing me to lay
my fear upon her.

For she is ~non-judgemental~
allowing for my imperfection.

For she is ~wise~
knowing when to only listen.'

My goodness lady ... this poem alone would justify purchase of the book~

I have found YOU to be just the quality of friend you describe~

The replies you've received certainly reflect that those who know you through your friendship are fortunate indeed~
