This... oh Marti poet lady, this hurts... part of my sad Christmas is mixed with pride and fear. My nephew just joined the Marines. He just completed bootcamp. My heart burst, hugging him goodbye. I have genuine fear. |

Martie, though none of us truly want war, sometimes it's necessary. People everywhere deserve to live out their lives in freedom. Hugs to you, dear one The stars will shine when I am gone, |

Martie.. Unfortunately that ugly word of so few letters has been around since man was first born to this earth......... Yes, I too wish an end could come to the indifferences that bring us to that field of play where men are mere pawns.. Ya wrote this very well...thank you for the thoughts... |

Karen..I am not against the men and woman who fight ...I remember the fear I had that my boys would be drafted... that mixture of pride and fear makes what kind of cocktail? It is the reasoning that disturbs me....and that is that peace can be found through war....How can that be? Heart hugs to you. Michael..I know... |

Beautiful phrasing here ... You've captured the futility I feel in my pondering heart as well, Martie. Hugs to you in hopes that the "learning tree" will somehow take stronger root, and stand tall. Best wishes, /Kit |

Lady Martie... would that we could use the words "love" "hope" "kindness" and their like with such fervor. Unfrotunately such things don't seem to sale so well. Pity. Peace to you and yours with a good new year. |

Martie, I fear for all the ones who will get injured or killed in war.....even though it may be necessary, it brings nothing but destruction. There is always war going on somewhere, even if it's "cold war". I, like you, just hope and pray that one day all mankind could live peaceably together...but will that ever happen on this earth...... I can't watch the news anymore...it tends to make me nervous and I can absorb only so much negativity in my life right now. A thoughtful write hugss M |

(big hugggsssssssss) Oh Martie, this is so very sad but true, sweet friend, heaven knows when we may ever see a world free of these tears and grief and no longer can we contaminate the soils we live upon! (sad sigh) My heart goes out to the world, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! You express this very well, Martie. It's hard to comment on war without taking sides, you know? You might consider talking to someone who's over there. I'm sure they'd like hearing from you, and it might help you too. Just a thought. [This message has been edited by mirror man (12-31-2002 07:45 AM).] |

Martie, I read this quite a few times yesterday and thought that I had responded....perhaps I didn't because I didn't know what to say then anymore than I do now...... I felt this, deeply. It makes me ache.... You have a way of doing that with your words.....such a gift......HUGS |

The news is sad and dismal. These are truly treacherous times in which we live. Let's pray that wisdom rules and wins the day. Great expression, Martie. |

Martie - a great poem asking a very important question - I don't think war gets peace - it gets some time spans between wars but having a mindset that war is necessary means there will always be wars - if we have tro fight for peace...well I think you say it well with the edge in your voice that I think should be there - thanks - Paul |

It is a shame that is takes "war" to try to attain peace....I'm afraid peace is not attainable however...but I've always learned and practiced...."a good offense is the best defense"......and sadly, it works best for me....but.....that's usually when it's a one on one situation.....no innocent victims.. |

I could copy your entire poem over for each line touches, coaxes and provokes images... but instead of copying my favorite parts, I'll just say this is magnificent. One of my favorite Christmas carols is the unlikely duet of Bing Crosby and David Bowie singing Little Drummer Boy and Peace on Earth... Especially this year, I listened to the final question "Peace on Earth... Can it be?" and fear... not in my lifetime. |

Well said. I believe that war is a necessary evil, but as a mother of sons????? It places one, straddling on a fence of vacillation, a most uncomfortable place to be. I have found I would rather live in the NOW than in the future of history yet to be written, so I play ostrich and don't watch or read the news. Immature? possibly, but it works for me. |
