A Friend’s Meaning Wanting to comfort her in every way. His actions stay with him Like shackles on fire. His guilt burns him from the feet up And his heart cannot defend Against what he knows is right. But is conscience won’t see it. Not in the light of his breath But in light of hers. His heart and conscience drag each other apart Feeding the fire inside, Though released in the sincerity of writing. Everything the heart will give And everything the conscience will allow. The man’s deepest pride revealed Leaving him most vulnerable When he gives his comfort, Becoming a teddy bear with a heart beat. He’s only asking for her understanding. Her one last effort To believe in this friendship And break the burning shackles off his feet. Consequences of any uncomfortable thoughts That may lie where their paths meet. Might be prosaically prolix for some readers. It's amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity, & incumbency. |

I liked this poem. It made me think. I was trying to figure out if it was about you personally. It kept me interested from beginning to end. "Love makes the world go around" |
