HOUSE OF CARDS
by
Linda L. Dowd

~*~

Closed doors greet me at every turn
As I roam dark corridors,
I've lost the keys to open them
--Locked rooms forever more.
There was a time when I'd fret not,
For I knew that I'd prevail,
That I could open any door
--My keys would never fail.
But as the years sped quickly by,
Those keys began to rust,
I hadn't taken care of them
And they returned to dust.
The winds of fame and fortune,
They blew my keys away,
I'd lost all sight of Godly things
And saw no need to pray.
One by one the keys were gone
As I went my selfish ways,
Door by door was slamming shut,
--Lost rooms of sun-filled days.
Now I roam the endless halls
Of this House of Cards on earth,
No more shall I enjoy those rooms
Until my death--my birth...

~*~
P.S. This is just me stretching my poetic wings and is not a reflection of my own life.

Julie ~

Thank you so very much for saying so!

May your keys open all the closed doors you come across in life...

Warm hugs,

EA,
you may have built a house of cards but it's fortified with an iron will to soar, very good expression of shaking off the dust.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

jellybeans ~

Did you know that everytime I see your name, I smile! Jellybeans are colorful and sweet and put a smile on my face--just like you do!

...and I'm pleased that you enjoyed the poem once you learned that I am not "darkly wandering" in my own life!

Warm hugs,

Kethry ~

Oh, yes! Indeed I do have an "iron will to soar!"
I enjoy writing from perspectives different from my own personal experiences. It is somewhat like acting and getting into character. Variety is the spice of life!

Thank you for the wonderful comments!

Warm hugs,
EA

(big hugggsssssssss) Oh Linda, I'm so glad this isn't based on you right now, sweet friend, I was concerned reading this wondering why you'd re-post this here from Dark, but now I realize many have felt incarcerated time to time as I have! (sigh) I send angel hugs to you, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Noah, I thought I'd post a poem that was out of character for me--to shake things up a bit! I am more of a pollyana sort of individual but there have been times when I have had tragic events in my life, and have  pulled up some of the dark side of the mirror---however, this poem was strictly me trying something different.

Valentine hugs,
Linda

Linda, when you reach and stretch, beautiful words spring forth.

Huggles, Marti

p.s. I owe you an email and hope to have the energy to write later today. I am thinking of you.  Luvs...

Marti, good morning my friend! Thank you for the up-lifting comment!

I am glad that you are taking care of yourself and getting your rest. I am looking forward to your e-mail---but make sure you rest up first! Listen to nurse Linda!

I've been thinking of you as well!

Big Hugs and lots of smiles...

Linda
