I awoke with sleepy eyes
so blurred
it's hard to call this fact--
not quite crusted
but I wept
when the eyelash stuck...

I closed my eyes in self-defense
and pawed my way to cigarettes
A sigh of just another day
as I raised filter to my lips--
my lighter crowned me queen...

I pushed the button on remote
wishing that I had a rope
to pull on that which rings a bell
and bring to me my coffee dreams
and the paper would be nice...

Where wishes
are not
velvetry--
purple
turns to black
in seams
straining on the stretch of us
I watch for omen in the news...

I gather feathers as I walk.
"surely this one is from him..."

I taste the rain upon my tongue.

"Brine."
The sand becomes ocean.

The salty tears edge my eyes
Crusting over in halfway cries
The bell chimes much too soon
Crisp sounds shattering gloom
I leave this sleep with just one try
And exit the dank darkness of the room
Aroma spews from coffee automatic
As I wash brine that makes eyes stick
Almost blind my movement flies
On the tray I place a single bloom
And carry it to the mistress quick.

Well no wonder!! Dear poetess - do you ever sleep? Hmmmm...whatever shall we do about this? Then again, you write so well while the rest of us slumber. I know. Just pick up the phone and dial every coffee shop and ask if they deliver. Next, buy a monkey trained to use a remote. Oh geesh....I'm going back to bed. Loved this write by the way. hugs, Chris

You do the wildest things with words, this being a rather 'tame' example!
