I held a feather tight and tighter still But failed, again, to notice the courage of the quill Or prism colored patterns in geometric glow The simple beauty of the thing when looking on it slow Then thoughts drift back to you, dear a love so rare so fine Of how I held you, caged told all that you were mine I work to make a fine nest you struggled to be free I toiled until the day you left and now, If I had only learned to be . . . Through an open window I studied every line Every hollow feather fastened sturdy spine Then, one by one my fingers rose unto the gentle breeze Which borrowed from my very breath to free... The feather. Rf |

Robert, please remember, if you are going to write a poem that requires a hanky, then you must thereby provide a hanky alert... |
