This love occurred long, long ago when teenagers were still pretty naive. I doubt if anyone today can relate. It was a pretty intense time of my life. I was a tender 16 year old When my first love found me Virginal, naive, susceptibe Overwhelmed by such as he. Four years older, suave, handsome Me, just a cute little teenager Phone calls, flowers, visits overwhelmed His laughing eyes and teasing ways enraptured. His words spun like a golden web Dancing around my head His attentions flowed through my being As I helplessly drowned In the honey of his words. I could not think except thoughts of him I could not breathe unless he was near My heart didn't beat except for him My life was now meaningless without him. Seduction had been accomplished Now, I was a pawn moved at his command It was almost too easy, I was so young My life without him had no meaning. Everything lost its purpose Except for him Without him, my life was bereft My body became heavy My heart swollen and sore. Soon I was abandoned A new conquest lay at his feet One day he climbed on his Harley Going to her instead of me. A semi appeared as if by magic Before he had time to think He had ridden into the monster His neck broken, his life was gone. Now, I am much older and here I stand A single red rose in my hand Sorry because he lies beneat my feet No longer able To spin the fables I wanted to believe. But here I am still alive... I SURVIVED (sort of). |

Barbara I know of others whom this happened to. Maybe not exactly, but loved, thenlove was lost then lost was the love. I am not sure which hurts the most. But it showed that you were the caring one. M |

First love is so hard because it's new and so easy to fall into.. I know I did. But we survive (sort of). This was a good poem. You described the situation and thoughts/feelings surrounding it very well. - Jaime a man of quality is not threatened by a woman of equality |

It's easy to believe in fairytales when we're that young. I look at my own children who can't see past the here and now, without a second thought to how their lives will play out. The right of passage is most certainly a long time coming. The was a tear jerker, but so very well expressed. Take care Barbara~ |

what a sad story you tell...and you must not be that old, because I can remember that time in my life too |

I'm sorry that the fairy tale ended badly for you, but perhaps it would have ended badly anyway. You write it well, and the anguish leaps off the page. Kethry Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind. Unknown |

I do appreciate all the kind words. Thank all of you for taking the time. It amazes me how therapeutic writing it all down is and how encouraging the people who read and write in this Forum are. You have to be the nicest in the world. Thank you again. Barb |
