The Five Thousand Friendly Dead

have made their
encampment
right beside the
fifteen thousand
enemy dead, and
some innocent guys
who just happened
to get in the way.

It’s strange how they all
get along now;
nobody shooting
or anything.
Could it be that
when twenty thousand
and some innocent guys
are dead,
nobody really gives a damn
just who was
friendly,
and who was
the enemy,
and who just
happened
to get in the way?

Maybe that's the only state in which true peace can be found, Ed..

Ed...I think you have a point here.  It seems to be human nature to war, on the other hand, the soul has no reason to.

Some of the greatest endeavors of humanity has been the practice of killing each other. In all our glory are we have to resort to becoming brutal beasts when we can not resolve our differances.

"And some nice guys who just happen to get in the way"
Struck me as funny, though I know its not.  Kind of like a Mr. Boffo cartoon... finding him in the wrong place at the wrong time... an oblivious used cart salesman trying to hawk his goods to Charon (who is only looking for a boat) while they stand in the Valley of Death with Barbarians and Romans lining opposing hillsides.  Just the picture I conjured up.  Go figure.
