Listening to every heart

0 posted 2003-02-05 11:11 AM

Blood rush

Yesterday
came to me as I verged
up
and out
from beneath
coverlets of warm quilting in the
early morning gloam,
scrutinizing,
of all things,
upside down memories…

between that time of
slender adolescence and teen, that tweak
of instance when all is possible,
when I had triangulated my head
to the palms of my hands, down there,
on the carpet

triangle, triangle for balance

then, placing scabby knees to bony
elbows

balance, balance

drawing the string of invisible rope from hip to heel,
feeling the pull, then pushing thigh to leg to feet up

wiggling toes high over head
and feeling the

blood rush

remembering…

there was no one to spot me
or spot me,
so, in the quiet, just me, the carpet,
the upside down stance,
the blood rush

the beat of heart felt in the top of my head
and the bottom of my soul

my bare soles waving freely in splits of limb
with leggy length
to

balance, balance.

I remember thinking,

I shall stand on my head, always,
swoosh the air with bicycling limbs,
and feel this blood rush,
always,
for perspective

today,

between that time of
adult and aged, that tweak
of instance when all is possible,

I triangulated my head
to the palms of my hands, down there,
on the carpet

triangle, triangle for balance

then, placing creaking knees to fleshed
elbows

balance, balance

I realize that the shift and heft
of weight and time,
of past and present,
with some of my future behind me
and some tomorrow
still to lean toward…

I breath, deeply,

then, with the top of my head
to the carpet,

slowly, slowly

don’t break any bones

I edge my feet into the wintry air,
Blood rush….

Always!

I really, really enjoyed this!  What a unique topic.  It brought a smile of remembrance to my face.  I can't wait to get home and see if I can still do it!!

Karilea, this tickled me..I'm still giggling.....lol
The picture of all us at PIP getting on the floor trying to stand on our heads again after all these years of not doing it...most of us, anyway...is hilarious.....
Thank you for this.
.

BTW, I'd try it right now, but I've got to get ready to go for an eye exam. Besides, Scooter (my dog) might grab my hair like he does when I get on the floor and play with him...lol
.
.
Now, Karilea, when I start laughing in the doctor's office over nothing today, it'll be your fault if they call the cops to me for being drunk or crazy...HaHa!!
