Perfect
sitting on the sidelines
like being an audience to a heartless hunt
and one face pushes its way across the room
getting to me
in every way.
Outstretched eyes quiz my mood
as hands offer a dance in the most polite of ways.
A man with his hands and eyes
just don't grab on the way they used to
and suddenly he's just another body in the crowd
as I am part of him for a song's length of time.
We talk of things
unimportant things
that don't last beyond the dance floor
where no one cares about life philosophies
unless it involves an acceptance
of one night stands
and confessions that love no longer matters
when two hands dance as close as they do
on a matress of smoke and liquor.
Perfect sidelines
holding beauty that hides the rest.
the canyon sized crack
that interrupted life again.
Perfect
"Would you like to dance?"
"Sure."
dance
pretend to be thinking of the shoulders
my head is resting on
but in my heart
while I'm singing along to the song
with every ounce of voice
I am dancing with someone else
in another part of life
where smiles are grounded in sincerity
and I am believing in endurance again.
"Would you like to dance?"
"No thank you.
I'm waiting on the rest of my life
to walk through the door
and whisk me away from all this smoke."
No regrets
in passing up another waste of time,
Still lonely.

The door remains open, so the waiting will end.

Thank you.

Wonderful piece of work here Jenn...
Yet so melancholy...
Good to see you here!

Only too well.

Each new dance teaches something else.
