There stands a face in this place Fades from in to out of view Old to new. Shall it ever return, to more than merely a silhouette shadowed dancer with regret blows another evening wind down this well beaten path in the mind? Submissive to this pain One sometimes can only remember smiles as the miles pass on like the past they seem to vanish into the haze of yesterdays rear view mirror On sunny days now long ago They’d sit on a bank Watching the river flow And she’d look into his eyes He’d carefully disguised And ask, “Tell me, what is wrong”? Which he’d dismiss with answered kiss, And answer ”Nothing, everything’s fine” But all was not well, And how would he tell That he was now looking ahead To the future of this day today That would have him looking back to the past And that their love Would never last Yet still stays with him Yesterday, tomorrow, and today For he’d love her, then as if it were now, Even after the evening winds had died Always…and forever |
