The world looked on in grief and pain
As angels fell in fiery rain
Our hopes they bore to spatial shore
Forevermore...

A country mourns these special ones
Their lives and dreams have come undone
The answers lie nowhere at all
When angels fall...

Their sacrifice too great a test
While doing what they loved the best
Their families watched, the world as well
When angels fell...

In sadness we shall honour those
We lost today, though heaven knows
To most it makes no sense at all
When angels fall...

But blessed they were in spirit great
And unafraid, they tempted fate
A lesson taught to one, to all
As we watched our angels fall...

Many hearts are mourning the loss of those very special men and women aboard the shuttle coming home. The sadness is shared by many, worldwide, as it was telecast across the nations globally. I know that tears were shed here, on my own little street with my English friends. We are all family, and such a tragic loss affects us all.Tonight we are sad........together.

This was absolutely beautiful, each verse stands alone.

I want to believe the men and women onboard the Columbia would do it all over again.  I think it was their passion in part, and a dream worth dying for that has become their fate.

Thank you Sunnyone for your fine tribute and leaving your heartfelt words that speak to an entire nation in this time sorrow.

Thank you, Eric.  This is the second time I have watched those angels fall. Both times were horribly tragic. It makes me wonder if man was really meant to leave the earth. But, I tried to put into words what everyone here in England feels, and the shared grief.
When it comes right down to it, we share the sadness, Americans and their world friends.

Thank you, too, Noah.  Yes, I shed my tears today too, and I like to think of those men and women being up there, at peace, and part of the universe that they loved so very much.

Thank you Bill....it is hard to put into words the comfort that I would like to give to the families of these people. I hope that my humble thoughts would help in some small way, if they but knew.

Thank you, BluesSerenade...and I agree with you.  I think they would choose to do the very same mission, if fate had dealt them a different hand. We never know in life what is around the bend.  The only sure thing is the love that we share with friends and family, and I have such sorrow for their loved ones tonight.

Thank you, Vandana...it really means a lot to share this with you. I believe that the only way we can heal our hearts, is to share with each other.  I'm glad to have you here.

Thank you, Nightshade...yes, very very sad. I felt today as if I knew these people, each and every one. I mourn for them all, and pray for healing the broken hearts of their families.

Sunnyone, this is a gorgeous tribute that touched me. Very profound words in this one.

Sunny, this is a very beautiful tribute to our "fallen Angels".
My prayers are also with each of their families.

Thank you, Skyshine, and your voice is appreciated here. With one voice, we all grieve.

Thank you, Loner, but the beauty lies in the fact that every time a horrible tragedy like this happens, mankind temporarily realizes that we are all really one family. No one cries alone.

Thank you, garysgirl...and yes, the families are heavy on my mind.  We all realize that there will be an end for each of us, but to have a loved one snatched in such a way must be the hardest kind of pain a person can bear.  I know all of our poetic hearts go out to them, and maybe they will feel it in some small way.

Thank you, babygrrl...I only wish that the families of those angels will find the comfort and strength to help them through this sad time.

Thank you Brad, and I am even more stunned by this tragedy than on the day that it hit the news here in England.  It seems that NASA knew of the problems even as those people were climbing aboard, and ignored the warnings.  How could this happen? Now the loss is even more horrific. How very sad....

Yes, it seems like safety is not being properly addressed...accidents should be rare and it seems as if they are becoming the norm...James

Oh, James......how true that is. You would think that if man could find ways to send himself to the stars, he could find ways to bring himself home safely.  Where does it end? Thank you for your reply, my friend.

Sunny, such a wonderful tribute to these brave men and women.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Oh, thank you Michael, my friend.  It was just such a senseless tragedy, but the only comfort is in knowing that these 7 souls spent their last moments doing what they loved. Maybe that will be a small comfort to those they left behind.
