If yer life is bleak and hard
Yer feelin like a failure
Grab yer tinny and green card
And head down to O-stray-ya

We love beer and bar-b-q's
We are the lucky country
For some sport we'll shoot some 'roos
And show off our best dunny tree

Don't let the bushfires scare yer orf
Or deadly critters trail yer
We'll treat yer like the king's own toff
Down under in O-stray-a

Fat like a lizard on those logs
Yer'll find this place relaxin
Yer can swim if yer have togs
And nothin's ever taxin

We have the blue ringed octopus
And jellyfish in boxes
And spider bites upon your tush
With dosh for tails of foxes

"No worries mate," is what we'll say
And "she'll be right I tellya"
Although the mossies come to play
Yer are not drongo fellas

We want to have all yer yanks here
Yer know there is a reason
Australia day and VB beer
Will signal 'tourist season'.

lexicon:
tinny ? a can with beer in it, an empty can is called a deadun
roos - kangaroos, local pests
dunny - toilet
togs - bathing suit
tush - backside
dosh - money, farmers get $10 for every foxes tail.
mossies - mosquitoes, and we grow them barn sized down under
drongos - derogatory term , usually meaning stupid.
And blue ringed octopus, boxed jellyfish and redback spiders are all deadly. Australia is the home of the venomous and unwanted, but at least we can laugh about it.

Kethry, I love this. I could almost hear you reading it. I love the way Australians talk. I guess I notice others accent's because I have such a Southern drawl.....HaHa!!

BTW, my Gary and I would love to go visit there. Maybe one day we can.....

Nan,
if your niece is coming to Victoria tell her to look me up.

regards2you,
thanks. I'm glad you were delighted. I had a delightful time writing it.

garysgirl,
'sfunny yer know. When I was in Florida with me Pommie mates no one noticed me accent, until I'd say somethin outrageous, like "don't just sit there like a shag on a rock" and then they'd look at me funny. I hope you can visit sometime it would be fun. Don't forget to look me up if you are coming.

PoetDeVine,
you are welcome to join me but we actually call them prawns - shrimp is the American term. It was changed in the Paul Hogan ads. (there you go, another piece of trivia out of my head and onto paper.)

Maureen,
ripper Rita!

You do know your population got a big boost when we won our independence from England. They need some where else to dump their undesirables.BTW do they still hang the picture of the queen upside down in the pubs.

It is one of my dearest dreams (not up there with being around Toe, mind you, but still close to my heart LOL) to visit Australia... Maybe one day? *S*

I loved this, Keth... and greatly appreciate the chuckles. *G*

Of course, those chuckles increased when I read your comment about Florida... how well I remember chatting away with you, thinking I was talking to Marsha... and you KNEW it! LOL Thank heavens I have only good to say about you or I could have been in BIG trouble! LOL

Keth beloved one, you haven’t got an accent darling heart, unless you are talking to the chap in the petrol station who recognised you were an Aussie.

YOU know I love this utterly utterly utterly, could anything be better, no I think not.

I could talk for hours about this but I won't, it really is something special, just like its author
